Opening of the Respite Care Center

Opening of the respite care center in gdansk

On September 27, 2023, the first Respite Care Center in Gdańsk was opened. This is the culminating moment for the project that has been developing before our eyes for the last two years. The center was created and will be run by the Gdańsk Hospice Foundation, which, as a strategic partner, has been supported by the JohnnyBros Foundation from the beginning of the investment. The ceremony was attended by donors, local authorities, national media, volunteers, and all friends of the Hospice Foundation.

The ceremony occurred at Kopernika 17c Street in Gdańsk, where the newly established Respite Care Center is located. In February 2022, we took part in the symbolic ground-breaking, and after over a year and a half, we can now admire the facility in its full glory.

The guests who attended the event included Deputy Speaker of the Senate Bogdan Borusewicz, Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Piotr Adamowicz, Mayor of the City of Gdańsk Aleksandra Dulkiewicz, Member of the Board of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Agnieszka Kapała-Sokalska, Vice-Chairman of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Assembly Hanna Zych-Cisoń, founder of the JohnnyBros Foundation Julian Pawlukiewicz, Councilors of the City of Gdańsk and many other guests, including volunteers of the Hospice Foundation.

The ceremony was also attended by a large group of JohnnyBros employees who were repeatedly involved in various charity campaigns for the Hospice Foundation and the construction of the Respite Care Center.

With respect for other people

The Respite Care Center is an extremely important and necessary initiative.

“We are glad that the JohnnyBros Foundation could support this project. Respect is a very important issue in our organization. Respect for work, for knowledge, for technology, and the changing world, but above all, respect for other people. I am very glad that we can give our respect to people outside our organization," added the founder of the JohnnyBros Foundation, Julian Pawlukiewicz.

Who will benefit from the Respite Care Center?

The Respite Care Center was created to support families and caregivers who take care of their seriously ill loved ones at home every day. It will be used by carers of adults and children who are not independent due to illness or disability. Depending on the needs of caregivers, the Center may offer day stays from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., 24 hours a day until 2 p.m., and in special cases, up to 30 days.

The offer of the Respite Care Center is addressed to the inhabitants of Gdańsk and all residents of the Pomeranian Voivodeship.

As part of the Center's activities, the patients will receive nursing, therapeutic, and rehabilitation assistance. In addition to using their free time to relax or deal with their private matters, caregivers can benefit from psychological and legal support. Additionally, any willing caregiver will be able to take part in training in patient care at home.

Ultimately, 42 patients will benefit from the support of the Respite Care Center daily in stationary care and 20 patients as part of daycare. The first people arrived at the new facility on September 1.
